3) Write a 250 word statement of intent for your film scene. This should follow AQA's guidance (look in your coursework booklet) and clearly lay out how you will use media language to meet your brief. You should also discuss what representations you plan to create (either reinforcing or challenging stereotypes) and how your scene would appeal to an audience.
The type of film i will be trying to create is a coming of age drama called 'Truth Be Told'. At first i was going to only use POV shots from the protagonists view point to create enigma codes but within films, the camera repeated shows the protagonists face to clearly identify props character theory. The stages in terms of locations would be from the protagonists house, to football, then on a bridge where the altercation occurs. The last 2 locations are where the main action happens with the scene. The short scene would effectively be about a black boy who is confronted by a group of boys who threaten to come back after his football session. After his session, he leaves the compound and finds the boys waiting for him in a big group. They rush him leaving the protagonists badly injured. His coach (helper) then rushes out to help him but then he blacks out - causing the scene to fade to black. I wanted to recreate a drama that shows both reinforces and subverts traditional black stereotypes. The group of boys (villains) are black teenagers who live up to the stereotype of being violent/a hazard to society vs a young black male who is just trying to keep his head down and focus on football and his education. As it's a coming of age drama shown at water shed hours, i have to ensure no dangerous props are show and the use of language stays appropriate. During dramatic sense i will be using cuts, speech from characters and fast paced non diegetic sound tracks to heighten the intensity. I'm not going to end the scene with a sense of narrative closure as i want the audience to question what's going to happen to him next and how will the situation be resolved - generating enigma codes for the audience.
In order to engage my young target market, i will be using elements of personal identity and diversion from Blumur & Katz: uses and gratification theory. I think it would appeal to more of an ABC1 audience between 12-25 as i aim to explore topics that that happen in everyday life by seem to go unnoticed. Usually the best coming of age dramas use S. Neals 'Repition & Difference' theory to show the same conventions but just in a different way. They usually do this by converging comedy with drama but I am to use Commons approach in 'Letter to the Free' by sticking to the seriousness of the topic.
4) Write a script for your film scene. You'll find guidance for writing a script in the BBC Writers' Room (click on the Script Library to read real examples of professional scripts).
5) Storyboard at least five key shots from your scene, take a photo of the storyboard and upload it to your blogpost. What visual style are you trying to create? Storyboard sheets are available in DF07.
6) Write a shot list containing EVERY shot you plan to film AND additional shots to create flexibility when editing. These additional shots are often close-ups, cutaways, alternative angles or similar. I advise using a simple table on Microsoft Word to set out your shot list - you can find an example here.
Going to football practice
1 Medium shot of protagonist saying "bye mum..."
2 Mid shot of protagonist closing the door the a pans right as he walks
3 Low angle shot of protagonist walking down the stairs - match-on-action
4 over the shoulder shot of protagonist opening block door
5 medium long shot leaving block - match-on-action
6 long shot to medium shot to mid shot of protagonist walking down the road
During football practice
1 tracking shot of the protagonist running with the ball
2 POV shot of scanning for players on the field
3 lose up of protagonist looking anxious
4 low angle shot of the protagonist kicking the ball
5 low angle shot of protagonist getting tackled
6 over the shoulder shot taking to a friend on the side line
Altercation after football practice
1 low angle shot of him fading away
2 high angle shot of him being stomped on
3 tracking shot to show them fast approaching him from behind
4 close up on villain one saying "get ready"
5 backwards tracking shot of the protagonist moving towards the camera
7) Plan your mise-en-scene: what iconography are you including to ensure your audience understands the genre? Plan your cast, costume, make-up, props, lighting and setting.
Costume:
Football kit
hoodies (casual clothing)
Lighting:

Ribeana(blood)
Props:

Setting:

8) Plan a shooting schedule that will ensure everything is filmed by Wednesday 27 June. Include when, where, who is required and what shots you will complete at each time/location.
Thursday 21st June: Northolt High 6-9pm
Tuesday 26th June: Northolt High 6-9pm
