Editing video feedback/learner response

1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher.

WWW:

  • very good P.O.V shot and editing/dissolves
  • very good cinematography (over the shoulder shot)
  • very good use of angles and location chosen
  • very good use of shot/reverse shot - well framed
  • good use of camera movement - tilt/pans
  • very good use of match on action - shown several times
EBI:

  • sound quality needs improvement - use external mic
  • lighting within the classroom needs improvement
  • composition of characters needs improvement - more of the speaker within the frame

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students.

None.

3) Now reflect on your video. Did you meet the brief and successfully include the three key editing aspects we have learned?

Yes, I believe I've met the brief because I stuck to the 180 degree rule when we were speaking, had good match-on-action when I walked through doors and walking up the stairs and made good use of the shot/reverse shot when me and Aran were speaking.

4) What were the strengths and weaknesses of your final film? Write a detailed analysis picking out specific shots, edits and any other aspect of film language you think is relevant.

Strengths:

  • good use of match on action when i walked through the D block doorsm - upstairs and down stairs
  • good use of match on action when i was walking up the stairs
  • editing in the beginning was distorted to create the idea of me being paranoid about what was going to happen next
  • theme song song was parallel to the editing on the video
  • good use of low angle shots when i was walking up the stairs
Weaknesses:

  • lighting within the classroom needs to be improved so it looks less grainy
  • sound quality needs to be improved so that it can clearly be heard by the audience
  • make sure the composition of each character if correctly framed

5) Learner response: what aspect of editing did you find most difficult? How will you further develop your editing skills prior to starting the coursework in June?

I found keeping the composition for each character the hardest because it was hard for me to make it seem as if what was being said match the actions of the characters. I will develop my editing skills by spending more time on composition framing in my next assignment.
